Setting out integration by substitution

It is never too late to ask right? This stuff only occurred to me during the exam yesterday. Otherwise I've always been comfortable with it. Thought I'll get it cleared up.

In substitution I heard you have to show working out every time to do it saying (for example):



I thought that was just assumed?

Secondly, is this setting out appropriate?











I've been told that the 'proper' setting out is:



and working from there.

Just wanted to ensure I was doing nothing mathematically wrong.

EDIT: I may sound paranoid, but I just don't want to lose unexpected marks out of

This is how I've been told to set it out



I do that on the side, then just make the substitution and make my integral...

It can't hurt to do what Mao did (which would be similar to what I would write).  At worst, you've spent 10 seconds ensuring that you don't make a stupid mistake.
