AOS 2 is killing me.. please help

1. What is the difference between a bottleneck effect and founder effect? (I'M SO LOST)

2. What is the difference between parallel evolution and convergent evolution??

3. The development of evolutionary theory? is this referring to the history of darwin,wallace and all those guys?

please help and if anyone has aos 2 notes on pc please please share...

1. Founder effect is when a small part of the population migrates to a different area and begins breeding with only a small allele sample, after a period of time this population can be quite different to the original. The bottleneck effect is when something happens (ie a natural disaster) so that only a small part of the population is left, BUT the population is still subject to the same environmental conditons (same area) as before. The original population is gone in the bottleneck, but still there in the founder effect.
They are both similar in that a smaller part of the original population is forced to breed together, causing a change in what the original population was due to the small, non-representative allele sample.

Difference between parallel and convergent:
parallel - related species which develop similar features independently, often due to similar selective pressures
convergent - unrelated species which become more similar / develop more similar features, often due to similar selective pressures (evidenced by analogous structures)

Evolutionary theory looks at the progression of views and theories over time, from Creationism to Lamarckism (this is probably the only other one you need to know for the exam) to Darwinism. Be sure you understand that variation leads to natural selection which leads to evolution - they are not all the same thing.
