UoM vs RMIT

Alright, so the time has come to make a very important life decision. I wish to do mechanical engineering and have both options open via UoM and RMIT. The question is though, which one do i want to go to, and why?


I have the option of choosing @ RMIT Mechanical/Management (double degree) or Mechanical engineering.

At UoM i can do a commerce degree and major in mechanical systems, going on to do a masters or do a BSc and major in mechanical systems and do the same thing. (If i take the commerce path, i need to do summer school cause i didn't do spesh -.-)


Also regarding difficulty wise, how hard really is an engineering degree, i'm quite enthusiastic about the field and decent at math, just a little concerned about needing that 65% GPA at UoM to go on to do a Masters.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Engineering can be fairly hard, depending on what you're specializing in (like chemical engineering). A great deal of maths, and either physics or chemistry (or both) may be required, and you'd have to be proficient at them too. GPA of 65% at Melbourne shouldn't be too hard as long as you put in the hours to study on. Prestige wise, definitely go to Melbourne engineering. But if you really like the option of doing a double, RMIT is a good choice, since double degree eng. at RMIT is (presumably) the best in the state after double degree with eng. in Monash.

Well thats the thing, i'm faced with this decision, and I do not know what to do...

AES_999 unless you are actually in or have completed an Engineering degree. Don't offer advice.

I was going to ask for your spesh score to use as a gauge but since you haven't done it, there really is no way to tell how hard you will find it until you do it. Whatever you do, I recommend doing physics in first year to get a feel for the kind of things you will be doing, and also because it will be a good supplement to your engineering studies later anyway.
