One of the most common patterns is the 3:2 sequence......if two figures are the same/symmetrical then they are USUALLY the start and end pieces. You then need to arrange the other three piece in a logical manner.....sometimes easier said then done ;D.

The only real way you can improve is by doing heaps of prac questions (Mensa books are ideal).

just keep doing them and you'll start seeing common patterns
keep in mind medentry s3 is much harder than acer (that's what i found)

read the guides, it's mostly logic, for example
the 3-2 rule will help a bit (3 black objects, 2 white objects) meaning a black object will be in the middle

there will be things like something rotates 90, then 180, then 270 then 360
its just practice and taking notes of similar patterns
very daunting at the start, but it will get easier if u stick to it

mensa books are full of puzzles that can help you train your brain to get into 'umat mode' - they are not directly related to the umat, but can certainly help... if you're interested look online, ebay, amazon, gumtree etc.

Just do practice questions until you get the hang of it. You don't need to follow any rules, just get a good enough idea of some common patterns then look for possible variants whenever you hit something a little different.

Where do you find all the questions? Coz i've noticed that medentry drills are pretty limited, and eureka's a waste of time if you want a particular type of questions (eg pick the middle)

Medentry is limited? I could have sworn there was like at least >1000 questions for section 3 (including exams which is where most of the useful stuff is anyway)...you won't need more if you actually can get through those.

I swear I never got these questions. Sometimes, if you're lucky, there will be a 3:2. Otherwise, try drawing all of the options on top of each other and find a pattern through that.
