bleh - I survived this year just fine except I thought things got a bit hectic when MUEP Jap threw me a 10 min roleplay test, a 1000+ ji essay test during the time I went crazy on my gen con and detailed study

I was pretty worried that I wouldn't survive the workload hence why I took Further instead of Spesh... but after seeing that retarded scaling I sort of regret it (just a teeny bit.)

MUEP/UMEP was a lot of fun though with being in a class of students who are as equally motivated as you
2011 : English | Accounting | MM CAS | Further | Japanese | MUEP Japanese
2012 : BA(Japanese&Chinese)/BComm @ Monash Clayton

Can you guys be more specific about the workload of 5 VCE+umep biol? How heavy is it- like 5h a night heavy? I'm doing chem, lit, spec, french + umep biol and I was thinking of doing legal! Could I manage it?

I don't know if they changed this but UMEP can only be credited for 1 subject in uni, as opposed to the usual 2. Kinda sucks..

5h a night? I've never done that much study in my whole life. In times of crisis I'd probably do 5h a week. It's more about studying smartly than over studying. 5 hours of school + 5 hours of study a day is just too much in my opinion.

Lol, I don't think 5hrs is needed a day..haha maybe just study consistently
and do like 2hrs is more than enough if you make full use of your teacher.

As a general comment, uni workloads are generally lower because most people are not aiming to get 50's or 40+'s, which is really high. They are mostly just aiming to do OK in the subject. Even a H1 is 'only' 80%, whereas to get a high score for say, spesh, you're looking at only losing a couple of marks which is like 95% anyway. Of course, for those in uni who are just aiming to pass, the work they have to do is then MUCH lower as well.

So I'm guessing that that is a 'yes' to my question? Spesh, lit, chem, french, legal and UMEP biol are manageable?

why are you doing UMEP when theyve capped the scoring at 5.0, and they increased it to 90 to get the 5.0

to achieve that is very hard.

I don't know if I should be bumping a month old thread, but I find myself in a similar situation...

My 2012 subjects are: Literature, methods, Chemistry, French and Global politics and maybe UMEP Bio. I finished bio last year and I was a bit disappointed (42), but nonetheless I think I can get into UMEP Bio...

See I could have UMEP Bio replace Global politics and have a 4 subject +1 UMEP course set-up- however, that would force either methods OR chemistry into my top four- and right now I do not feel confident in either at all... Maybe I should just drop UMEP Bio in general? Travel does seem a concern- but I would have loved to experience UMEP bio...

edit: then there is all the stuff related to 90+ for 5.0 ATAR increment that has been implemented as of late...

No one can tell you what to do.

But I can tell you that doing it really won't cause any harm, just don't do any work for UMEP. Go to the class, absorb what you can, cram the day before the exam. That's what, as far as I know, everyone does. I would normally say doing it for the increment is silly, but having just been through it all every little bit does add up.

thanks that actually helps a lot! I think I will try it- I mean Global Politics appears as a bit of a bludge of a subject- and given that I already read French and English news- I guess that could count as studying, in part, for Global Politics?
