I did this subject last year and really enjoyed it. It takes you through a series of crimes, starting at minor ones like graffiti and moving up to more serious ones such as terrorism. We also looked at armed robbery, animal cruelty, and if I remember correctly, computer hacking? I'm not sure about that one. Then of course, it takes you through related theory as well.
You'd also get information on the types of people who generally commit these crimes (sex, age, socio-econmic status), which I always found really interesting. From memory you also got some explanations as to why they feel the need to commit the crimes (that also branches into the theory side).
Anyway, the assessment is straight forward enough. I over complicated it for myself by choosing a ridiculously complicated case study to analyse for my major essay and sort of screwed that up. So if you do choose this subject: don't choose a case study about murder! Keep it simple.
But the first assessment was easy. The exam is take home (yay!) and that was also fairly easy. Most of it was using statistics provided by the courts/police etc to come to conclusions.
The lecturer is also very entertaining.
I can't think of anything else, but if you have any specific questions, let me know.
