Currently very depressed.
« on: January 20, 2012, 02:22:53 pm »
Well, not really. Haha ANYWAY...

My ATAR 82.10 (And apparently I get some credit being from an underrepresented school)

1. Melbourne Uni Science: Clearly in 85, but prereqs have been met
I didn't get in on the first round offers, and my asian mother is considering me repeating english and further this year...
is there a chance I'll get a spot at the second round?

2. Deakin Uni Science : I got an offer, but my mum's against it so pass

3. Monash Uni Science: Clearly in 80 and I've met the prerequs but it was 5th on my pref list (what was I thinking?!)
Should I put in an irregular offer? I'm scared that what if Melbourne offers me a place? But I'd like to put in an irregular offer asap
because I don't want all the places to go at the second round offers...

Please share your opinions. Cheers

Put irregular ASAP. But accept your Deakin Uni Science anyway.
You got Deakin Science already, so enroll to that. At the same time,
put an irregular offer for Monash science. Should you get the
irregular offer from Monash accepted, you can say to Deakin
'im sorry, even though i know i got enrolled in science, i'll be
taking up an irregular offer for science at Monash.

Dunno about Melbourne, but don't bank too much on it.
Second round preferences at Melbourne are a bit weird IMO.

Sorry bud, but the clearly-in for Science @ Melb was 90.15 so it's highly unlikely that you will get a 2nd round offer.

2. Deakin Uni Science : I got an offer, but my mum's against it so pass

3. Monash Uni Science: Clearly in 80 and I've met the prerequs but it was 5th on my pref list (what was I thinking?!)

As aes_999 said, definitely accept your offer at Deakin, in case your irregular offer is unapproved.

I would definitely put in an irregular offer for BSc @ Monash, given that they are 2nd to Melbourne the courses and quality should be relatively similar, also you can apply to transfer at the end of next year anyway to Melbourne if you really want to go there.

That being said you;
To apply, you firstly need to make sure that you meet all the requirements for the course you want.  Next, you need to contact the selection officer for the course you want and ask them these three vital questions:

1.  Are there still vacancies in the course?  (I've heard some are reluctant to answer this but the next few questions they will definitely answer)
2.  Are you accepting irregular offers?
3.  If so, what documentation are required?

Then you need to log into MyInfo and complete the form.

Important Note: When the Irregular Offer is approved, you are forfeiting your list of preferences in subsequent rounds.  This means that your list of preferences won't mean anything and won't get any offers on your list.  This means that you are either stuck with the offer and you cannot apply for another Irregular Offer.  So make sure that this is the final offer you really want.

@lifeishard: You say you're from an under-represented school, but are you also from a rural area? I went to a rural school and a friend of mine is able to do arts at Melbourne even though he didn't get clearly in, thanks to the Access Melbourne Program: if you're from a rural and/or disadvantaged school and applied for seas, an atar of 78 or more guarantees you a place in Arts, Science or Environments (if it's your 1st pref. which it is in your case)
