TAFE Certificates

Hey guys,

I've heard that apparently TAFE certificates can give you some sort of a bonus increment for your ATAR. Is there any truth to this or is it completely false? Sounds like an easy way to boost your ATAR if it's true.

Thanks :)

Yes, you are correct. Some subjects have exams where you get given a normal study score and it is scaled accordingly, and others
are increment subjects where there is no exam and the increment is 10% of the average of your top 4 subjects. I believe this is a very good way to boost your atar score - unless you bomb out in 1 or 2 of your other subjects. - in that case what could have been a subject in your top 4 is now just an increment as your 5th subject.

Be aware that some courses (MBBS at Monash and others as well) will not allow you to undertake their course if you've had ANY tertiary study including TAFE.

I did some TAFE study before I did VCE and got credit for it. I was credited with two subjects at 10% of the average of my top 4. It really helped. The TAFE subjects even bumped my crappy fifth VCE subject out of my ATAR completely.

If you find a TAFE subject you want to do it's not a bad idea (unless you want to do medicine).

Thanks so much for alerting me! Is jmosh002 correct, to the extent of your knowledge?
