If you are studying English Language, Living Lingo is excellent. I'm using at school right now and it is specifically written with great depth* to focus on Australian English.
It was first published this year so all the material in it is new and relevant. I would definitely recommend buying the book.
*=Comparing with the other books out there.
do you know anything about these other books?
Complete guide to English usage: for Australian students.4th ed. (Ramsay)
Macmillan English language units 3 and 4: student CD-ROM. (Mulder et al)
Mastering advanced English language. 2nd ed. (Thorne)
VCE English language exam essay writing guide. (Fox)
also does living lingo have a cd? if it does someone could upload it and save me the trouble of buying
I've seen the Macmillan English Language book and in my opinion, it's on the same par as Heinemann. It's not brilliant but still a useful resource to have around other than Heinemann.
Living Lingo unfortunately does not have a CD. Have you asked your teacher to order a class set from VATE? That's what my teacher did and we didn't have to pay for it.
With
Mastering Advanced English Language, the book is quite advanced as it talks about things that Heinemann nor Macmillan cover such as lexical cohesion. It also covers the aspect of English language in quite a bit of detail. I would recommend this book if you're looking for more detail than the Heinemann book, if you're looking for some examples such as radio excerpts or even if you are hungry to do some questions.
VCE English Language Exam Essay Writing Guide. is a book that was on my book list that I had to buy. Unfortunately, I haven't used it yet and thus I cannot comment fully on its usefulness. However, to my knowledge, I don't think there is another book that guides and teaches students how to write English Language essays. Despite this, Fox has compiled some pretty good samples in the book which I would definitely recommend English Language students to purchase if they have not already bought it.
