Subject Selection?

Hi all,
I am currently in year 10 and have to choose my vce subjects for years 11 and 12 very soon. I know that i want to methods 3/4 next year, and English, Chemistry, Specialist and Religion (compulsory). I want to do 2 3/4 subjects in year 11, as i think if i am doing specialist and the umat in year 12 5 vce subjects will be too much. The problem is that the year 11 3/4 subjects at my school aren't the best (health, psych, biol) - (i have ruled out biol because the teachers and the department are not that great). The only subject i could think of doing is further, if i'm wanting to do 2 3/4s in yr 11, although that will mean i have 3 maths subjects next year, and only 2 maths can count in top 4. Also, i know i'm pretty bad at religion since we are doing it the pre 1/2 now, which will put a lot of pressure on me to do well in chem.

Any suggestions or advice?
cheers

pi

Why do you think doing spesh + UMAT in the same year is a bad idea? I can think of at least 30 people off the top of my head who are in med atm (myself included) who did spesh and UMAT in the same year (along with 4 or more other VCE subjects)...

I think that doing 2 unit 3/4 subjects in year 11 is a great idea. It will remove a lot of stress in year 12.
Science subjects are great to accelerate, since they are largely content-based, meaning (in layman's terms): the more you study, the higher score you're going to get. "Natural intelligence" plays very little role in a subject like psychology, which is all about memorising theories and stuff.
Maths is quite different. People tend to do better at an older age, when they are more mature, which is why many schools (such as MHS) discourage accelerating it. However, don't let this stop you from accelerating maths methods. If you're a bright student, then you will cope fine. Also, specialist maths will seem a lot more manageable with the skills of unit 3/4 methods under your belt.
And lots of people that do the UMAT also do specialist maths. Infact, I think that most of the top scorers in the UMAT were people that did specialist maths that year. Just ask Thushan.
I hope this answers your question :)
