Really? :/ My teacher always advises us to start the paragraph with an idea/argument (topic sentence) then we give evidence by discussing about persuasive techniques and how its impact to readers, analyse the purpose of author when using it.

Just cut it in half and write a couple of sentences which vaguely represent a link.

Do your paras have a central focus?

If a page hand-written is ~200-250 words, that's alright, I probably had similar length paras. However, if it's a page typed, then you really need to focus down on what you hope to achieve in the para, whether it be on a specific point/idea/argument, a change in tone, or a bunch of similar "techniques" :)

my teacher said we do it with an aspect of the piece then from that we use quotes the writer used in favor/against the aspect and then we spoke about the different persuasive techniques and how they affect the reader all up about ~200-300 words

Not really, mine were of a similar length in the exam from memory.

My LA SAC had a paragraph in it that was 1.5 pages (about 400-450 words) and I still copped 20/20 for it (although it was 6 pages in total). The examiners are generally open to quite different writing styles, given that most students found their approach based on what their teachers tell them to do.

EDIT: Actually my teacher seems to have especially enjoyed this paragraph given that he drew a really strange looking creature jumping for joy next to it. Odd bloke.

I always try to establish some sort of connection between the image and the written text(s).
