Anyone here own a Kindle? If so, is it any good? I'm looking to buy one for Christmas but not sure on which version to get. I'm going to use it primarily for reading, nothing else so the Kindle Fire is out of the question.

*Can you read PDFs on it? If so, is the reading quality dimished or is it the same given that the majority the Kindle books you buy, are designed specifically for the Kindle and PDFs aren't.
*How is the reading experience, would you consider it more comfortable then reading a book, or do you think it takes out of the quality of reading experience?
*Does the screen emit light which can give you myopia e.g. such as on a computer screen? Because I heard the light given off is minimal and it's like reading an actual book.. but I haven't used one so I can't verify that claim.
*How many books can you store on it?
*Do you think it's a much better choice then the Nook? If so, why?

Thanks

Yeah they're great, I'd recommend one. You don't need 3G and whether or not you need a keyboard depends on your preference.

You can open PDFs on it no problem. Only problem is with display, where fitting the PDF to the size of the screen makes it too small so I usually rotate the screen 90 degrees and read it that way. Only gets half a page per screen but it's much easier.

It's just the same as reading a book, doesn't change the experience at all.

Doesn't emit light at all, it's pure greyscale. The e-ink tech is quite clever, there's no refreshing of pixels except when you press the button to turn the page.

You can store...lots. Ebooks are pretty small, a few mb each unless they're uncompressed PDFs

Kindle is the best supported, probably no difference in function

Get the cheapest version there is (I think it's like $100). I have the touchscreen but it's honestly not worth the money.

And unless you plan on making notes everywhere there's no point getting one with keyboard.

On my old kindle (the 3G with keyboard) I had about 1000 books on it with PLENTY of space to spare

Awesome! I was also thinking about getting the one with the keyboard.. but since I'm only going to use it for reading I don't see the point.

Thanks for the feedback. :D

BTW, can you get the books from another source besides Amazon like Google Books?

yes but uh my sources are not exactly ahem, legal

for out-of-copyright books try gutenberg.org or planetebook.com

My old one was from Amazon. My new one is from Dick Smith. I recommend you get it from Amazon because they have AWESOME customer service and warranties.
