Picking up Biology at Units 3&4

So due to the low numbers in Italian, I might be forced to study Biology next year without having done Units 1&2. I know it can be done and done very well, but my school is generally highly discouraging of students doing this (they allow students who are performing very well, however). I've also heard highly varied stories from people managing fine without any additional preparation to others struggling even with extra assistance. So what do I need to do to bridge the gap? Will I be fine as it is?

Honestly, you won't need to do too much to catch up. Everything you need for 3&4 is retaught, so you won't be disadvantaged. If you really want to, you could read the first few chapters of the 3&4 textbook over the holidays... Bio isn't a hard subject to pick up  :P

I might be forced to study Biology next year without having done Units 1&2

If you are being forced into it, it'll be all that much harder for you. Work will be a chore. Choose the subject you like the most and you'll have a much better time. IF that subject is biology, then, it should be fine. Not much of 1/2 is carried over.

You should do some reading on bio-macro-molecules eg. proteins, amino acids, nucleotides, lipids. It should probably be the first chapter or two of the 3/4 bio book. Thats the only thing they really carry over of note.

I find it impossible to hate biology. It is among the best subjects offered by the VCE. When you do it you will understand what i am saying. Nothing is as amazing as learning about living things in the environment. If you have an interest in biology getting a high mark would become so easy.

My friend didn't do Biology 1/2 and proceeded to do 3/4 in year 11. She got a 50.
Aspiring doctor. Why? For the same four reasons as everybody else. Chicks, money, power and chicks.

When I was doing 1/2, I didn't turn up for most of the year for my classes, and when I did, I would just fuck around with my friends.  Somehow I still received an S, and got an A+ (72/75) for my exam this year, so I'm happy.

The amount of 40+ scores in bio I know who didn't do 1/2 is ridiculously high, 1/2 isn't really needed (unit 2 defs isn't in any case).

It is my first preference to study if Italian doesn't run and I think it will be very interesting and useful, so hopefully I will enjoy studying it in the future.

I'm so relieved to hear how well some people have done in this subject without the first two units. I'm really quite confused as to why my school has such a hardline approach to students picking it up in Year 12 if it really can be managed with no major issues. :S

When I asked to do Biology 3/4 in year 11 they didn't let me :( In stead I had to choose from HHD or BusMan.
Some schools are skeptical in letting students pursue 3/4 Bio without doing 1/2 beforehand. Then again it varies from school to school but I suspect they don't for a reason. (Some students might struggle)

Well my application to study a 3/4 subject without 1/2 was successful. Now I just have to wait and see if Italian runs or not... :/
