This may seem far too ridiculous but considering you can buy a private island for $2-3 million dollars, it doesn't seem all that bad. Not saying that's cheap, but it's probably not much more expensive than some of the houses posted above (if not, cheaper).
Private island? Wow, thats actually really cool.

I want a small house. Cosy, and yet homely.

A private island does sound pretty cool, except I'd get lonely there. Living in the country is bad enough, but living on a private island you would feel completely isolated from the rest of the world. Without internet access, without people visiting you and without you being able to visit others, there wouldn't be much to do.
