I believe it is only part of the Specialist course, not the Methods course. I haven't come across a single question where you could use them (In a methods VCAA question) as of yet :) My school did not teach them either, they were in my textbook but it was only a very brief section on them with about 1 question.

I don't think so, i haven't seen a question which has required the use of it.

yeah don't need double angles...
however i think you might need the sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) = 1
are we allowed to use this for methods + is it required? (on one of the previous exam two's (i think 2010) i thought we had to use it D:)

I think the use of that identity (Bazza's post) should be fine, most students should know it :)

Compound and Double angles are only in GMA/Spec. In Methods you should know the Pythagorean identity, supplementary and complementary angles.

^I think it was clarified in a VCAA Bulletin that it was not necessary to now them by memory, but just to know how they work so if they chuck it in the exam (with the formula given) you are not like "wtf" :)

Anyway, its not hard to remember though. You only spend like 5 mins to remember

You'll never have to use it if it isn't on the formula sheet. And afaik, it's not on the formula sheet.
