'too formulaic'??

what does the feedback 'too formulaic' mean? how can this piece by fixed? What's so 'fomulaic' about it?

Too formulaic means the structure/formula of the technique analysis is too explicit and obvious. If you want to score high, you need to be able to be subtle with your structure - that just comes down to knowing some really good sentence structures and starters, varying the order in which you analyse - maybe analyse effect first, then mention technique and purpose etc - Mix up the order.

For that sample essay, you will notice how it follows the really simple structure of 'The technique... This makes readers...' - Vary sentences. Also with that essay as well, you will notice the writer called the audience 'readers' - make sure you be specific about who the audience is!!! Listeners for a radio interview, for a speech etc. Readers for a written piece or blog etc.
