For part a, I don't understand why they used 1 degree. Where did they get that from? It's not in the information anywhere :|

and for part b, I don't understand how they knew the heat of combustion was 60g. Would someone please explain? I get so mixed up with all the heat of combustion questions :S

a) because it take 4.18J to heat 1g of water by 1 degree, it must therefore take 4180J to heat 1kg (1000g) by 1 degree. You're also given 9560J of energy required to heat the calorimeter by 1 degree, therefore, as 4180J is used to heat the water, (9560-4180)J must be used to heat the components

b) the molar mass of propanol is 60g/mol, that's where the 60 comes from. They're also saying combustion of 60g not heat of combustion. So you combust 60g of the propanol to get so much energy.
