I have received full marks for both folios and for all SACs. However, technical drawing is where I get stuck and I'm scared it will be the focus of the exam. If I get say, a B or C on the exam, will it affect my overall score greatly? I would love to be aiming for a mark in the high 40's for Viscom.

I'm in the same situation and also interested in this if anybody has any relevant past experience or knowledge that they would be willing to share.

It's unfortunate that the exam moderates our folios which are almost entirely unrelated.

If you got a B or a C = 0% chance at high forties.  Don't worry at all guys, work your absolute hardest for VCAA with a special focus on those things you're bad at and you'll do great.

Thanks for the reply!  :)

I'm assuming to get a 50 we'd need to full mark the exam? What would roughly be needed for a 45 or 40 respectively (with understanding that the figures will only be rough estimations which are entirely dependent on collective performance on the exam, scaling, ranking etc.)?

Lol, thanks for the bluntness. I will try my absolute hardest! How about if I got an A for the exam? Would that give me a chance at high forties? (my cohort is very good too).

  • Unit 3 school-assessed coursework: 33 per cent
  • Unit 4 school-assessed task: 33 per cent
  • End-of-year examination: 34 per cent

If you got full marks for both folios you've only fulfilled 66% of the coursework. If you get 50% on the exam, that would make your total around 83% which probably isn't in the 40s. So you'd want to score fairly highly on the exam.

I think that's how it works.

You could probably afford to lose a few but may as ell full mark it if you can ;)
For a 45, low-to mid A+ by te sounds of your SACs/ folio etc. it would be higher for other people. An A could get you a 40 with strong SACs/folio but a low A+ to be safe (these are 'could' scenarios, not 'probably' scenarios.

Probably an absolute max of a 44 study score, more likely 42ish. Don't even bother with what ifs. For give yourself the option not to do as well as you want to. You e smashed the SACs and folio so there's no reason you can't do it for the exam.

I don't know if this would help, but I got A for Unit 3, A+ for Unit 4 and A for the exam and I ended up with a 40 :S
To get an A+ for the exam you should try as MANY exams as you can! Time them too because time is very important in viscom!
Who knows what they'd set you up for the technical drawing area, but really practise on  many of those technical drawings as you can. Last year really stumped our cohort because we never learnt anything about sectional drawings (only have seen them). So do AS MANY as you can!

Good luck :)

Low a+ low a+ low a+ will get you a 39-40

if you're on a high a+ high a+ you could probably still get around a 40 with a A on the exam...
