Elizabeth Fear is good :)

She's a bit "scary" in how she talks to you (possibly a bit condescending), but she knows a LOT and has great resources too :)

She's not called "Fear" for no reason ;)

Yeah I used to go Liz Fear but because I am feared I quit.
Like what pi said, she has lots of resources but her teaching is just normal and I feel like I don't learn anything in an hour time  and it takes a bit of time to travel. :)

Tye and English is located in Glen Waverley for your info. As you may already know, Tye is a former editor for The Age and has all the experience that you would look for n a professional tutor. Students who have attended his classes have been very successful in VCE English, judging by all the success stories that are pasted on the walls of the place.

Being a competent student in English, after attending his classes I realised that I was no where near as good as I thought. The subjects that I was assigned to for the year that I have attended there seemed easy enough at first, but only after experiencing them did I realise what required receiving a good mark from him meant. He is by no means an "easy" marker so if you do attend, be prepared for scribbles of red all over your page.

Some other important things to know before going there are:
-There is an entry test which requires you to write an essay with a topic depending on your year level.
- Based in your mark on the entry test, you will be assigned to a class that term. The teacher is not always Mr.Tye.
- Based on your performance in that class in that term, you will be assigned to a different class next term. The subject taught will be an area he thinks you should improve on. Personally, I think this system works very well but some may prefer a class that they are given the opportunity to choose what they would like to study.
- Each term the time and date of the classes change and you must be prepared to give up any co-curricular activities you may have. This happened to me quite a lot.
- The worksheets and booklets that are used in each class, are not updated, judging by the dates I noticed, which range from 2002 to 2012. We sometimes analysed text from 5 years ago. I didn't mind as long as it was good English we were reading.

I do not know about Elizabeth Fear but as some were saying, her attendance is an issue. As far as I know, Tye has never been absent or late.
I would recommend Tye and English for anyone wanting to study English Language for VCE as for English Literature, there are no specialised classes yet.

Elizabeth Fear doesn't reply to my emails :s
Does she still tutor this year? (I know she's busy..)
Btw, do any of the two tutors correct practice essays that are not assigned in class - ie. if you write a language analysis piece will they correct it for you in class (or perhaps after class for an extra charge? )

The teachers at Tye and English  do it for no charge. Just give them one week to correct. I'm not sure about Tye himself.

Call her and she'll respond, and she is tutoring this year.

She might correct your essays if you're nice about it :P edit: you could always post your essays on AN for the most free help :P
