some of you might know but i just found out and i am Personally shocked!
stuPid VCAA system, well i just found out that according to the class rankings in your school and subject, e.g the highest ranked student in that class in that subject even though may not get the highest exam mark in the class, this Person will still get the highest exam mark in their class even though it is not "their" own exam mark. How the fuck can this really work?  damnnn sacs matter!

You really shouldn't worry about it. Just do your best and your mark will be fine. If you're in a not-so-brilliant cohort though, I will advise you especially to not slack off in SACs.

That's correct, it is indeed the other way around.

Incorrect. It is the other way around.

The person ranked highest in the class according to sacs will take the high exam result for their class as their sac mark. And so on.

Example:
A is ranked #1 for sacs, B is ranked #2 and C is ranked #3.

In the exam B gets 93%, A gets 89% and C gets 70%.

A will end up with a sac mark of 93%, equivalent to the highest exam mark due to their #1 ranking. However they will retain their own exam mark of 89%. And so on.

well that's what alot of VCE students and graduates are saying on those VCE forums. But yer they could be wrong, and makes sense if it's the other way around. If the 1# student in the class does get the highest exam mark was true i would've seriously hunt VCAA down and change the system :D

They are wrong. I'm not sure the system is even as clear cut as the system I explained, but it goes along those lines, not the way that you described.

Hey it's not that bad. It means that if you're consistent throughout the year and you get a headache in the exam it's not all over.

ooo, right...

but doesnt that mean ur SAC mark doesnt directly depend on your performance? it just give u ranking so all u gotta do is make sure u do better than the rest of your school/district? your SAC mark actually depend on other's exam performance??

Well the idea is that you're sac ranking will also corresponse to your exam ranking, because your sacs have been of a difficulty level sufficient to accurately determine where in the class each student stands, and hence predict their exam performance relative to the other students in the class.

The idea is that the first ranked student would do best in the exam, followed by the second ranked student and so on.

However it means indeed that if you screw up the exam, you are rewarded for your solid work during the year.

It also means however that things like cheating and overly easy sacs which can distort the true ranking can hurt someone's chances of achieving to their maximum potential if they find themselves buried in the sac ranking under people who are likely to do worse in the exam than them, and hence bring them down.

hmm WELL, i did really well in all my sacs (all A+'s for history and english language and then B+'s for further)
i did crap in the exams but when i got my study score all my sac marks had stayed the same cos i was ranked first in history, in the top ten in english language
... then in further i was in the middle and my sac mark got moderated up
i dunno the vcaa does my head in
i think sacs do matter though
