Besides high grades what other qualifications would assist me to pursue this specialty? I'm planning to go in through the biomedicine then doctor of medicine pathway. Would doing honours in surgery help and what I major in as my planned major is bio-medical engineering. Thank you all in advance for any assistance :)

Not many qualifications you can do now will help much tbh (to my knowledge). Becoming a surgical registrar involves a lot of things that you do after your degree. Probably volunteering in your own time might help, that helps strengthen any application.

I'd just pull in the reins and get into the MD first :) Baby steps.

True. Already started some MCAT physics in preparation for the GAMSAT (couldn't do physics in VCE). Would joining the army reserves help an application (e.g for leadership and teamwork). Thank you for the help :)

P.S I also have some downloaded books on surgery I'm planning to read.

Nothing you can do before starting your medical degree will matter. Get fantastic grades whilst you can so that you can get into medicine and when you're studying medicine try and network so when you start working you know a few people and so forth

When you say doing honours in surgery, what's that?

Interesting program. What sort of topics would an honours student do in that department?
