Unit 3/4 SACs help

Hi guys! Just recently received my results for my unit 3 enzyme sac and found it very disappointing. My mark was below class average and I've been so depressed ever since yeserday :( I know I shouldn't be hung up on it, but I'm really worried now, because one of the main reasons I lost a lot of easy marks was because my answers were too brief, and also some of the questions I didn't relate to the results of the prac.

Can someone please help me in terms of being specific and making sure I include everything in my answers. It's something I seem to lack, sometimes I know the answers but I find myself going around in circles trying to explain it.....*sighs* *grabs box of chocolate and sits in corner*

Don't dwell on it buds, just take it as a learning experience :) Since you've identified your problem you can work on it and you will gradually improve. In terms of being specific, ensure you actually understand what you're learning and not falling into the trap of just rote learning. By doing this you will be able to broaden the specificity into how you answer a question and maybe this is where you found it difficult to relate to the prac?

Well, I got mine today and the result was not good. However, I accepted it and moved on. I thought that I needed to learn from my mistakes so I can improve in the next SACs (and ultimately exam is the most important). The main thing that made me lose marks was not answering the question properly- like what you said about answering too briefly.

This means we have to keep on practicing answering questions and making sure you have all the key words and info needed. Diagrams have to be very clear and also explain everything, key terms, because you shouldn't assume that the person reading your paper understands all the biological terminology used. Being specific means going straight to the point and not giving irrelevant information. (On a side note, graphs have to drawn clearly with the axis titles and arrows at the ends and units and graph title. Line must be drawn straight and when the question says according to your graph, what is the ....., make sure your answer is from your own graph and not what you think it should be.)

Hope this has helped and wish you all the best! :)

The key with answers is you have to be thorough + precise at the same time. You need to make sure that you answer the question, and include enough biologically accurate information for the teacher to ponder over your work and distinguish A+ from A. That is ultimately what you have to perfect. Ensure your results/graphs are accurately labelled and easy to understand. Make sure your answers are clear and don't contradict each other; also, if you're asked specifically to relate to the experiment, use experimental findings and embed this into your analysis.

:) Don't be too disheartened. You have PLENTY of SACs to redeem yourself, and remember, every SAC you do that may not turn out to plan is just a way for you to address a weakness you have.

I think another main problem could be me not really understanding what the question is asking. Especially in the short answers section? How do you guys do it?

Thanks for the advices guys! Greatly appreciated :)

Practice. VCAA often ask ambiguous questions that you'd only understand if you'd done similar questions on past exams

Hey,

Something our teacher go crazy on at school and I find really helps - Is highlighting the stem of the question.

e.g. Discuss why negative feedback is essential for survival in humans.

So for this I would highlight discuss - I interpret this as they are looking for a paragraph response, not dot point form.

As for the remainder of the question you must explain a vital example in which negative feedback (homeostasis) maintains life in humans.

As for misunderstanding the questions - I would just practice, practice and practice on other questions  :)
