Arts to Science.

Hello y'all, i was wondering if someone who's studying/studied sciences could give me some advice  :)

I'm considering transferring from an Arts degree into Science. I've been away from Uni since last September as I was burnt out and didn't have any motivation to study what I was, and since then I've thought more about what I actually want to do, and I'd like to explore the possibility of working with animals (perhaps as a veterinarian) which would require me to undertake a science degree. The problem is I've never studied chemistry, and haven't done biology or physics since year 10.

I'm returning to Uni next semester and I'd like to take 'Biology of Cells and Organisms' as a breadth subject as part of the Arts degree, and if I can, 'chemistry 1' but from what I've read this subject require me to have done chemistry in year 12 - which I haven't  :P

So basically, I just wanted to ask what any of you would recommend? Do you think if I decided to undertake these classes next semester (just as breadth for now) I'd be jumping in the deep end with little hope considering it's been five years since I've studied any of it? Do you think reading VCE 3/4 guides would be a good idea? Or would basics from VCE 3/4 be covered in the early part of the class, in other words, do you think it would be wise for me to show up with no preparation to week one?

Cheers  :)

You didn't take methods so you will need to take a foundation mathematics subject as one of your breadths if you plan to transfer.  Having not done Science in VCE, you have to begin with Fundamentals of Chemistry.  If you want to do vet, you'll also have to do Physics Fundamentals at some point.  As far as I am aware all of these things are only offered in Semester 1.
You can probs do Biol tho.

You can take Genetics and the Evolution of Life in the upcoming semester (might be a good idea to take a no-prerequisites subject like Introduction to Animals in Society or Biology of Australian Flora and Fauna as well), and then Fundamentals of Chemistry, Biology of Cells and Organisms and Physics Fundamentals and Introduction to Mathematics in Semester 1 (though it'd have to be over two years since you'd still be in Arts at that point), preferably Introduction to Mathematics and Fundamentals of Chemistry in the first year (many Biology classes don't require both Genetics and Biology of Cells and Organisms so you can take that second one the following year, and Physics Fundamentals you can stick anywhere). It's probably going to be difficult to fit it all in without massively extending your degree, so hopefully you enjoy it :3

So:

Semester 2 2013: Genetics and the Evolution of Life
Semester 1 2014: Fundamentals of Chemistry
                             Introduction to Mathematics
Semester 2 2014: Chemistry 1
Summer 2014: Chemistry 2
Semester 1 2015: Physics Fundamentals
                             Biology of Cells and Organisms
                             Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
vet science prerequisites I don't know the names of
                             etc.

Those are the subjects you'll HAVE to do, preferably in that order (assuming you don't want to stay at uni even longer). There are some arts subjects you can take that are cross-credited as science if you want to get an extra credit point or two in the meantime.
