Hi guys,

I wanted to do some prep during the holidays for accounting and business law, which are apparently two of the hardest units in commerce; would the unit guides/booklist change that much from semester 1?

Accounting is super hard. I dont know much about it, but I do know this - MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE TERMINOLOGY INSIDE OUT. They explain the concepts in lectures USING the terminology which can be difficult to understand at first.

Is the Accounting unit, AFC1000? I know friends who struggled with that unit (i.e. failed or just passed).

In any case, don't think the booklist changes from semester to semester - it's more likely to change every couple of years. I've done the equivalent unit at Caulfield which uses the same textbook as AFC1000. Best idea with any Accounting unit at uni is to do the tute questions and practice exams. If you get the main concepts down, everything else should fall into place. With Bus law, having a good set of notes and set structure for responses well get you at least a credit in my view.

Do you even Accounting, mate?

Your friends probably took it that one semester when it had a 30% fail rate or something. It's not *normally* that bad.

I think AFC1000 has been made easier now judging from the drop in difficulty in this semester's exam

for BTC1110 just focus on the cases that the lectures emphasize on, back when I did it we only used half the textbook but since then the whole course has changed (from 2x1 hr lectures and a 1 hr tute into a 3 hr seminar) and the textbook lost weight

buslaw is pretty damn hard to cram so I'd advise to just understand the concepts really well

I've posted my notes in the forum before if you're interested - they only cover the topics that were on the exam though

Oh yeah, sorry. To answer your question: no, the course doesn't normally change much. If you want to be sure, send the unit coordinator an email just asking if there'll be any major changes. You'll find that most unit coordinators are more than happy to give you that sort of information.
