Is this subject worth taking?

Hey, so I actually have an interest in IR and I'm wondering if it's worth jumping into 3/4 global politics next year. Right now my subjects are looking pretty dry (3 science, 2 math) and although I find science pretty easy, I feel like I need a bit more variety.

I hear the subject is hard though, or at least involves quite a bit of commitment. What kinds of things will I have to do throughout the year?

There shouldn't be too much new on the theory side if you have any interest in IR, and that interest will definitely help you a great deal.
The subject really isn't that tough, I don't know where you got that from. I mean, it's certainly no bludge, but it's not exactly demanding. If your knowledge on the case studies you look at for the four AOSs is strong, and if you can relate the theory back to those case studies, you'll go far. The (wording of the) questions you'll be asked on the SACs and the exam is extremely predictable, so your answers do have to be perfect to get the marks. I think that's been the biggest trick to GloPol so far, and it's probably the reason people have told you its hard. That being said, if you interrogate your teacher after managing to get your hands on some past SACs or practice tests, it shouldn't be too hard to crack the code.
Further: 1/2 GloPol, from what I've heard, has little to do with 3/4. Nobody in my cohort did 1/2, neither did anybody in the cohort at my old school. It will not put you at any measurable disadvantage.
Then again, with 3 sciences, 2 maths and (presumably) an english, are you sure variety will be helpful?
