In Chemistry I'm averaging around 50-60% on all my SACS, and for the practice exam I got around 20% SO obviously I need to study... but if I work really hard can I still get a good study score (above 20) despite my SAC marks?

And the same for further - I know even if you drop one or two marks the SS goes down a lot, and I have only been getting around 70/80% on the SACS.

your sac marks are well set up for a score above 20, if not 25+ even, so I wouldnt worry about them. Its ranking that really matters anyways, not raw sac marks. Now all you need to do is try and boost that exam result. Try watching youtube videos and animations going through the fundamental principles to help increase your understanding of the key concepts. Then, if you have time, try attempting some exam questions. Remember, the questions may seem really difficult, but at the end of the day they cant ask you anything outside the study design. :) good luck! you still have about a month till the chem exam. If you work solidly from now till then, you may surprise yourself with your study score come the 16th of December :D

In further the SS doesn't go down that much after losing 1-2 marks it's give or take one mark lost=one study score lost for the exams.

You're defeneitly in with a chance for >20 for chem. in fact if you study hard you could certainly pull >30. I believe chem exam this year is worth like 66% of SS, so a good exam mark would certainly equal a good SS despite your SAC result. Study hard, learn the content, and you'll be fine.

Well, if you do bad on your SACs and Exams, then of course you won't get a good SS. If you do bad on your GAT, and you get a low indicative grade, your reducing your SS more and more. Instead of panicking about it, try work hard for the next month or so. I'm assuming that in less than a month, everything will be over for you. Why not study hard for just <30 Days. It won't kill you at all! It's not a long time at all, and whilst its a short amount of time, you can get A LOT done within it. Use it wisely, and please stop panicking - It won't help AT ALL!

What if you get hit by a car on the way to the exam and you die, resulting in a study score of 0 for chemistry?

A bit extreme, but it really irks me when people ask "what if" questions which of course, are possible, but are primarily pessimistic.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm, so I'm not gonna answer the question. :)

Thank you for the inspiration Damoz.

My intent wasn't to be pessimistic. I am working hard in hope I do well in all my subjects. My intent was to contribute to the original topic in another way by using myself as an example. OP asked if he does much better in his chem exam than his SACs, then will he still get a good study score. I said the opposite; I asked if I do much worse on my exam than on my SACs, will my resulting study score be low?

While it wasn't my intent to be pessimistic, I agree that my posts did come through as a little pessimistic. Unfortunately for me the pressure is on (as im sure it is for most people on this site) to try and keep my exam marks as close as possible to my SAC marks, or face the fact that my SAC marks will  be scaled down if I do poorly in my exams.

Hey! I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the lowest in my cohort for chem! My average is probably about 50-60% as well? I got 30% for one of my SACs  ;D

Annnnyway, I'm not studying for chem AT ALL until all my other exams are over, since I have 3 exams in the first 2 days *cries*

But from what I heard from the teacher, SACs are only about ranking and exams are mucccccch more important. So if you do well in exam, your SAC scores will just become a distant (unpleasant) memory.

Good luck to us both! heh.

Say you are averaging 50-60% for a subject such as chem and miraculously get 100% on the exam, is a 50 still out of reach?
50 is a perfect score and 100% means you know everything tested right?
Or will the fact that you averaged 50-60% pull you down despite getting a perfect exam score?

It depends on how many people get 100% though. If there a number of students who do, then your SS (assuming your SAC scores are lower than their SAC Scores) will drop down to may be 47-48. If no one else gets 100% (Highly unlikely), then you will 99.9% surely get a 50, regardless of your SAC Scores because you have beaten the rest of the state.

I don't want to definitely say this, but I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't go any lower than a 47 if you got 100% on the exam.

However, your school would be questioned as to what was going on with the significant difference in marks between SACs and your Exam score. They would also look at your GAT Results.

BUT REMEMBER: VCAA do everything to give you the best possible SS - They will never do something that would disadvantage you.

I hardly post here and just usually on here procrastinating but these questions seem to come up sooo much in exam period you may as well ban the phrase "can i".

However i will tell two motivating stories that will hopefully get you through (both of these students went to my school).
The first story is once a kid ranked 120 got a study score of 40 in further maths, he failed one SAC and did no study pretty much, however he decided to work hard for the exam and dropped a total of 2 marks, 1 for each exam. Subsequently he got a 40, now this is in further so keep in mind its competitive as it gets.

The second story is a kid in English Language he didnt drop a mark the whole year, 100% in everything, absolute gun. Got a B+ in his exam and got a 38 SS and also destroyed the cohort as a secondary prize!!

Moral of the story is, whats done is done, the exam should mean everything to you now and will mean everything for your SS in the subject. Smash the exam and i'll personally guarantee you a god damn 40 regardless of your SAC marks. If your still worrying about your SAC marks 11 days from your English exam, you should realize that your exam is more important than all your SAC marks combined.
Now stop thinking about the past, get off this website and study!!
