[Vis comm] Ability to get a SS of 40+?

I got an average of 85% for my Unit 3 SACs (20%), 95% for my pitch (5%) and 90% for my Unit 4 folio (40%). I'm aiming to ace the exam (which is worth 35%) I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an indication of whether or not a study score above 40 is achievable ? I know theres a study score calculator but it wont work for this, I would just love someones opinion. (We only have 8 people in our class but I'm in the top 4) :-[

(and I mean a raw study score of 40)

Are the top 3 going to the ace the exam or are they slack? the best thing about folios scores is that they can be adjusted to reflect your exam score, as yes teachers may be biased against one students product my teacher for vis comm in year 11 said that VCAA will do this, and also push down your folio scores if your exam does not reflect your folio score  etc. So I would say it if you ace the exam that 40+ is yours! I only learnt this as Im doing studio arts and art.

I couldn't handle three folio subjects so I dropped Vis comm, an plus the scale downs would make me cry :)

Hey man, Im in a similar position, I think we just got to make sure that we outperform those in our class like masonruc said. Im 2nd in a class of 9 but up against a year 11 who pours literally her entire waking life in to the subject, but I'm still pretty confident for the exam. My only problem with the exam is I overthink the short answers. I feel like the answers that they actually want for some of the questions (eg the sample responses) are totally meaningless. Like "the use of orange is aesthetic and therefore attracts attention". I guess art/design analysis is always going to be like that.

Im in a class of 2 however my school cross marks so I'm up against people i don't know. My advice is to make up a Vocab sheet asap then go through all past exams, get the generic questions of VCAA make a formula for example the image evokes a sense of happiness and warmth + this is reinforced  the (design element/principle) + describe the design element and the characteristic of it. I did Vis Com in year 11 and since then I've forgotten the difference between formal elements and design elements. But without this formula I tend to waffle and waste to much time in the exam. Also I tend to wonder into the Vis com class occasionally :)

Hehe, I have all the elements and principles in my head. Heres an example of a question that throws me off:

Identify and describe one dominant design element and discuss how it has been used effectively in this
design.

VCAA: Letterform has been used in the Small World designs effectively in an illustrative manner, stating the name of the business. Each
letter has been drawn in the shape of an article of clothing i.e. socks, or overalls, or pants…etc. The variety of usual shapes of
children’s clothing which create the business name. This is effective in catching the audience’s attention as they are unusual.    ???
This also helps to communicate what the shop sells through the letterform design.

I might be too cynical but this answer seems pretty senseless.

I'd have to agree with you ! They nearly just describe what you see in the picture. I find the short answers can effectively just come down to you making up a bunch of poo haha

If the 2-3 people above me out perform me in the exam, do you think my 40+ will be out of reach ?

If get an A+ in your exam and so does your class mates your sac scores will go up and hence you'll get a 40 + :) that seems fine, you've identified Letterform. Then described it. If you want I'm happy to look over examples of your work :) remember to use powerful design vocabulary to stand out! :)

Thanks a lot ! I'll keep that offer in mind
Do you have any examples of some good language to use to stand out ?
