Casual work during VCE

I know this type of thing has been posted before, but I'd like an honest assessment of my situation.
I'm currently moving into Year 11, in which I am only doing 1 3/4 subject.
I will be completing 5 3/4s in Year 12.
I'm spending a lot of time on completing my 120 hours this year for my learners also :P

With the workload of the subjects listed in my signature, what do you guys think of me working casually throughout 11 and 12? What type of work would be ideal? Would it be better to not work in Year 12?

Considering the subjects you're doing I don't think it would be overly difficult to hold a casual job. Plus you'd get hours up driving to and from work anyway.

But considering you go to nossal, hw and such could be a lot different situation. Personally I think work would be great, getting a bit of money and being able to do things on your own like paying for stuff feels good. Plus if its casual, it should be pretty flexible and if it gets to much just quit.

In the end it all depends on your own time management skills.

I'd definitely recommend work through VCE, particularly in Year 11. You could even cut it down to one shift a week in Year 12 (or zero shifts a week). As above, money is awesome to be able to spend, and it means when you finish Year 12 and need work through uni, you'll have something on your resume (or still have a job!)
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Go for it! Seriously do some work in Year 11. Its very useful.

I worked in retail all through this year (except around exam time). It provides a good time to just relax and do something other than studying, a good vent.

For the hours, just drive whenever you can and the hours come fast.

I didn't see work as necessary as it isn't really relevant to the pathway in life I want to take - plus I would go batshit insane going to school 5 days a week and working after school or on the weekends .. I'd have no me time.
My VCE 2014 Goal is to not end consciousness ... and a respectable ATAR.

Most people start off with food. My friend worked at Bakers Delight and only had one/two shifts a week which didnt impact on studies.

During my y11, I worked once a week for KFC, it was great, a break from the VCE workload and it enabled me to meet more friends from other schools as well ( since most of the staff there are still high school kids ). But still, if at any point you feel overwhelmed, just consider what really to focus on and make a good balance throughout the year. Best of luck !

DO IT!! I actually WISH I had a job throughout VCE. I know a lot of people who performed extremely well (high 99s well) while handling a part-time job and other hobbies. Plus, having the workload will ensure you use your extra time effectively since you'll have less of it, and work will give you something else to think about when VCE gets shit.

I completely agree. I worked all through year 12 and it was great to have a forced break from study!

I will always recommend work in VCE, especially in year 11 when you have a bit more time! It gives you more freedom, more money, experience, and something to focus on other than homework/sacs/school. The best options for flexibility are hospitality, food and retail (especially larger companies like coles, k-mart etc).
