Arts/Science at Monash... I thought I would make it into UoM :( Why do things never go right for me?

Be happy! Compare from this time last year, where you were faced with the prospect of having to repeat again! You got an offer for a good uni and a good course! You can always keep your job and find accommodation in between clayton and the city, which shouldnt be too inconvenient and try transfer later, if they're a possibility still?

There are multiple solutions. You could retain the job, take a 6 month lease on the student accommodation and video stream all lectures before transferring. If that's not to your preference, there are still many opportunities.

Arts/Science at Monash... I thought I would make it into UoM :( Why do things never go right for me?

But that's an amazing degree...I always wondered what would have happened if I had it on my preferences. Excelling at the best of both worlds - art and science - is where genius occurs. It takes a remarkable individual to be able to think in an infinite variety of ways.

Art/Science at Monash is great. I'd be really happy if I got into that course.

It's just round 1 bro, this is all the Clearly-In ATARs.

You've got SEAS like I said, there's another 2 rounds to go and I'm sure they haven't taken those into factor yet.

But last year, people from my school with an ATAR slightly less than me got an offer for the first round, with only underrepresented school. I kind of figured that if I didn't get an offer in the first round, I wouldn't get an offer at all...

This is a really good suggestion and just because it sounds like transferring might be a pain the the arse, you shouldn't discard it.  A lot of things in life are annoying and tedious.  And Arts/Sci is an amazing course! At a fantastic Uni!  If you still want to be at UoM then you can be there in 6 months.  And if you are careful with your subject choices you won't even have to take any extra time for the degree when you transfer.

I really hate to change the topic a bit, but why does Special and Specialist want to go to UoM for science? Wouldn't he be doing the same course at Monash? What are the differences? Prestige or just the course itself?

Read the rest of the thread.  Because S@S found a job in the CBD and accommodation at UoM.  So it was all sorted for him to go to UoM.  He still can go to UoM, it will just be after 6 months.

Oh I see, sorry for not reading the thread. I hope S@S gets a transfer or a second round offer to UoM then. I really have a poor understanding about how courses work and stuff, I thought science needed 85, and S@S comfortably surpassed that.

Good luck!

Without knowing the details of OP's awesome job offer, accommodation around Clayton is a hell of a lot cheaper than it is in the CBD/Parkville area. This relieves pressure re: a source of income.

I know that you really wanted to live in the city, but if you live at home, you might have less distractions which might open up more pathways (I'm not sure about your family situation so I'm not completely sure if this is the case). It sounds like you've also got some money saved up, so if you get decent grades, you might be able to do an exchange or two, which may even be better than living in the city for your degree!

Hold tight, you still have a chance of getting an offer from melbourne.

But if that really falls through, if you're so keen to move out, why not consider student accommodation around monash, clayton? Like ballerina pointed out, accommodation is a LOT cheaper there than it is around uom. Even if you have to pass up on the job, the money you save on accommodation might not make it so bad. And you'll surely be able to find work in that area, even if it's not as fantastic as the job you've been offered. Any part time job at all should give you pretty secure hours, and most places will be really reasonable/understanding with other commitments when they assign you shifts. Out of curiosity, may I ask what the job you've currently been offered is?

Alternatively, if you're willing to travel, you can always still move into the city area (non student accommodation tends to be cheaper anyways), keep the job, and travel to Monash when you need to be in for pracs etc. Streaming lectures isn't that bad btw, I prefer to stream my lectures, even when I'm already at uni. XD;; Then just get a transfer into uom after sem1.
