Can't think of many situations where it is avoidable but there are a lot for how it can be resolved.
Lets see... 1. Being provoked but ignoring it and walking away. EG: Walk past a group of random people that try and start a fight? I guess if you don't respond, theres not really any conflict yet.
2. I guess that resolved thing kind of goes in with avoid. EG: Two nations having a dispute over something ( verbal conflict at this point) and the physical conflict ( war) could be avoided through negotiations, discussions etc.
