How to do well in Unit 4?

Hey everyone,
I am currently doing Unit 4 Economics, in unit 3 I scored 89/100 and currently ranked top 3 in the class (but there's only 20 people in my class)... I am hoping to seek feedback from you guys on how to perform well or improve in unit 4, I have a good understanding of the theoretical concepts in unit 4 but my knowledge in current affairs and recent budgetary policies changes are limited.
In my opinion, I don't have the best teacher and most of the time I self teach in the subject, also, the SACs my teacher makes are from past VCAA questions and in my opinion, that's the worst way to assess a student's performance.  >:( >:(

What is the best suggestion or recommendation you guys can offer for me to do well in the remainder of the subject? Also, how are you guys performing?

P.S I'm aiming for a raw score of 35

Well done on your terrific score! I finished up with 86/100, which is somehow the highest in our class. We believe that the SACs have been very difficult, so hopefully VCAA does not disadvantage our school too much...

Thank-you! But to be fair the SACs from our school was way too easy cos they're straight from past years VCAA questions. From your situation I think you have the advantage of being rank 1 and if your SACs are difficult and you do really good on the exam your internal marks may boost up! :D Also, what type of SACs does your school give, are they written by teachers or from external source like TSSM?

Depends. For instance, we received a supply and demand SAC from Compak which was ridiculously difficult as it was nothing like we were studying (teacher's fault).

I am not too sure of the other SACs, but they would have to be from external sources as well. Bar the last SAC we did, which was on Economic Objectives or whatever the last area of study was. E.g. there was this one short answer question which no-one knew, and the only reason why I acquired full marks for it was cause' I had borrowed other study guides from the library for economics. I think it was distinguish between the headline rate of inflation and underlying rate of inflation.

Guys, don't forget that your actual mark doesn't matter; it's your ranking in the cohort that counts (so getting person A getting 50/100 is equivalent to person B getting 90/100 if those are the top marks in two different cohorts).

In terms of doing well in Unit 4:
The policies you cover in Unit 4 need to be thought about in the context of the government goals. Each policy is designed to positively impact the goals in a particular way, and you need to be able to not only explain how the policies work, but also how they relate to these goals.

It's this section of the course which ties all of the material covered in the year together. Don't try and understand Unit 4 in isolation.

Let me know if you have specific questions. Always happy to help.

Hi Sam,

With your lecture on July 9, we'll you be covering Unit 3 & 4 or just mainly a comprehensive focus on one unit?

Also, obviously the examiners suggest that those with contemporary examples seem to get the higher marks. I am probably guilty of not keeping up with the news that much...

I also need to improve my multiple choice, which is absolutely horrendous. I suppose these are all questions which I can ask you later though.

Yes you're right, and the ranking scares me as well because I'm not rank 1 and the class' internal scores got messed with by my teachers (the marks on my report was lower than my marks on the actual SAC). I guess this is the reason why I want do my absolute best in Unit 4 and of course the exam.
Also, thank-you for your tip on Unit 4, but my teachers do not explain the linkages of policies and goals clearly and accurately, I'm often too dependent on the textbook (Economics Down Under). I'm aware the book contains out of date data...so based on that am I on the right track? In addition, I often do the TSSM practice papers prior to SACs and make notes on the topics, but again the book is my primary source.
