VCE VET and ATAR - benefit or detriment?

Hey,

Has anyone done a VET subject during VCE and if so did they find it a benefit or detriment to their ATAR?

I am currently doing VET Community Services, partly because my work asked me to do it and because it is the easiest thing in the world and I know I will absolutely smash the exam.

Most VET subjects are not examinable and only contribute a percentage to your score although Comms Service takes the place of a full 3/4 subject and includes an end of year examination.

Now, whilst the subject itself is scaled down dramatically (-5 I believe) would it not be true that if I do well on the exam, the scaling won't have that much of an affect and it will be super good for my total ATAR score?... I see this subject as a bit of a 'cheat' given how amazingly easy it is not only in the course work but also in exam content (based on previous). Am I wrong to think that this will be very -easily- beneficial for me and has anyone else completed a VET subject and scored well?
(YR 12) English [40] , Literature [30] , Legal Studies [37], History Revolutions [30], VET Comms Service [38] ~Hopefully!~

So long as you do well in English and reasonably in your other subjects your ATAR will be in good shape.
2014: Psychology
2015: English | Methods | Chinese SL | Specialist | Physics

2016: Bachelor of Commerce - The University of Melbourne

In addition to this, my VET subject was the best I ever did - the things you're exposed to help you mature and it's a different learning style that's helped me this year. VET has benefits far outside of ATAR, imo.
