MSA short courses offers an "Introduction to Guitar" course for $140-$153, which is pretty cheap given you have 9 lessons in total. Of course, if you want to learn an instrument that's not guitar, this isn't very helpful. :P You could ask on stalkerspace - there's probably a couple dozen people who can teach you the instrument of your desires for cheap.

You may wish to look through this page (http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/aos/music/ug-arts-music.html).

Unfortunately, its too late for you to pick up any units so you'll have to wait til next year.

As mentioned by others, the short course centers offers music lessons (but no different to any other tafe/CAE/short course organisation youd find anywhere in Victoria then i guess). As also mentioned, im sure you could find students willing to teach you cheaply (quality may vary).

UoM also offers some music subjects, look into those if you're willing to wait til next year.
