Hi, I go to Werribee Secondary College and I am trying for Melbourne High. I got to James An College for tuition. Can anyone who made it to Melbourne High give tips for the exam? Also how hard is the exam? Is it true that the practice tests James An gives is harder than the actual exam? Thanks

I would highly recommended u read pi's last minute tips for MHS,defs worth ur time.
For maths, try to look into surds, linear equations/graph,trig and most importantly alegbra.

Essay writing: this is all about practice, you know that 15 minutes is such a small amount of time for a whole essay. Timing urself at home, working on grammer and espically ur vocab.

2016: Biology [47]
2017: Methods[43] Chemistry [45] Accounting [31] English [39] Specialist [35]

2018-2020: Bachelor of Biomedicine @The University Of Melbourne

Tests at JAC were a lot harder than the actual test from my experience. Time management and learning to stay cool under pressure really helps! The real exam reused questions from the free practice tests they give you, so it's worth checking them out. :) :)

I scored pretty average scores on JAC's tests (never 80%+, haha cri) but I rolled out of the real exam with 4 superiors and a first round offer, so don't stress too much (unlike me, I started getting white hair lmao). Just brush up on vocabulary, practise doing maths questions fast, and get used to skim-reading/looking for keywords -- that'll be helpful for Reading Comprehension.

If it helps, maybe even start a conversation with the person next to you. There's tons of time before the test starts, and talking might help you feel less nervous. (:

[Writing]
Here's some of past essay prompts from the exam from what I can recall  :P
2014
Creative- "Imagine a world without a sun"
Analytical- "Should people with lesser crimes be given community service instead of jail time?"
2015
Creative- "Imagine if you could read into people's minds"
Analytical-"Should food labelling be stricter?"

Don't be surprised if you see a written prompt for creative similar to previous years, ie Imagine... As for analytical, be informed abt the news, especially those relating to Australia. ie matters relating to refugees etc

In the Exam for writing, you'll only be given one double sided sheet of paper, so keep it below 300 words and write small. Also don't be stressed abt writing, cos mhs generally do worse than macrob ;D

Gl and study hard for the next 6 weeks

Well I'm not from Melb High, but MacRob has the same test anyway.

Don't worry if you don't finish the tests. I 'genuinely' finished one of the four tests, meaning that I did the questions instead of filling in 5 multiple choice on a whim. Got 4 superiors and a first round offer. I was surprised I didn't do so well on the other two (writing), as they were usually my strengths, but I guess a straight week of exams at school + the four tests took their toll.
I also went to JAC for tutoring, though it's been a few years and the place I went to changed management and went to shit quickly. I found the tests were harder than JAC (2012) and my class saw each other in the break and had a freak out.

There will be thousands of you. More students than you've probably seen in one place. You actually don't need that many superiors to get in, so don't worry if you think you'll only get one or two.
