So I attended the Monash EAL lecture on thursday, and the host mentioned some tips and facts about the exam that I had some doubts on.

1. No need for conclusion in Language Analysis
2. The host said that because of the note taking task, we will only have 35 minutes to write the analysis and therefore it is wise to just analyze 2 techniques each paragraph. She told us that it's not too little and that we can still get full marks for 6 total devices analyzed.

As much as I want these tips to be legitimate, but judging from the past examples, the host's tips don't seem to be valid. Can anyone please verify whether these are true or not? thanks!

1. Yes I do hear about this before, but generally, if you really run out of time on the exam, the part that you can probably skip is LA's conclusion. Otherwise, try to do the conclusion, it won't take up that much time. It probably shows the examiners that you care about the structure of a completed essay and is not short on time.
2. I've never heard about this before neither. But the note taking takes me around 10-15 mins max and in my opinion, 2 techniques per paragraph is way too little.

1. You are only required to write a "piece of prose" for the written analysis in EAL, which means you don't need to demonstrate your ability to structure an "essay" with intro-3 parags-conclusion like you would in section 1. So nope, no conclusion required. Just make sure your last paragraph links back to the main contention and doesn't end on a weird note.
2. 2-3 techniques for each paragraph would suffice. The focus is on the depth of your analysis not the breadth, which means as long as you analyse it well, it doesn't matter if you only end up having 6 pieces of evidence. :)

This also means that you have to be really careful on picking which "technique" to analysis; However, I do think the most important thing is that,  a piece should be analyzed holistically. Consider it is EAL, you are required to write on three arguments, obviously you look for three arguments and pick out which techniques will have the strongest impact on the audience. Often analyzing just two techniques is not enough (and you shouldn't be labeling techniques anyway), as most of the the intended effect is achieved though a combination of a few techniques.
