Question about non-examination hurdles..

So I kinda bludged a subject not realising the non-examination hurdle of the subject was 40%, and I may be slightly under it. My question is, if I was to kill the exam and be below that non-examination hurdle, would I still pass the subject or would they fail me?

This is the faculty of IT btw.

Your unit guide should tell you what the rules are.

Generally with hurdle assessments, if you fail it you'll fail the subject even if you receive a passing grade overall. Some faculties might make it so you can only get a maximum of 50. So you're better off checking your faculty's rules or contacting your lecturer

The unit guide and university rules say one thing, another thing often happen in reality.

At the lecturers discretion, if you just fall short of a hurdle, they will often "find" a few marks to kick you over the hurdle. Note that this isn't official policy and it is up to the discretion of the lecturer but that is what often happens in reality. There are a fair few people out there with suspicious 50's etc.

If you are 38-39% and you do very well on the exam, they'll likely ignore the hurdle or find the marks to kick you over. If you're say <30%, you're definitely screwed. For most lecturers, their discretion most definitely wont extend *below* say 37%. Either way, no use thinking about it right now, just own the exam to the best of your ability.
