Hey all commerce buddies

OB
Cost Management
Corporate Law
Sem 2
Business Finance
IFA 2
Breadth/Commerce Elective
Breadth/Commerce Elective

Anyone who has done second year, please share what breadth/commerce electives you did? or did you do third year subjects? so basically what did your second year study plans look like?

cheers in advance

For Accounting Majors I'm guessing they did the core subjects Accounting Reports and Analysis(ACCT10001), Introductory Financial Accounting(ACCT10002) and Accounting Processes and Analysis(ACCT10003). By doing these accounting subjects you automatically  satisfy the prerequisites for the 2nd year Finance subject Business Finance, which leads to the Finance major, (so doing Finance 1 is therefore optional.)

BLAW30002 Tax Law 1 as your breadth (get it out of the way) and if you're gonna choose a commerce elective, do Principles of Marketing or Managing Operations. If not, just do an easy breadth, your Semester 2 is pretty full on. :)

If you can hack it, id also recommend tax law. Interesting subject but requires quite a bit of time if you want to do well in it. (Its actually quite easy to pass though)

The only thing with doing tax in 2nd sem is that i see that youre doing IFA as well. That is a bitch of a subject (most unis split IFA into a 2nd and 3rd yr subject); and will require a lot of study just to pass it.

Whats your 2nd major? Cos id look into completing some cores for those.

If its finance, have a look at competition and strategy; technically an economics subject (game theory); but has practical applications in 3rd yr finance and accounting.

I basically followed the study plan in the bcom student planner. So
SEM 1 : Intro Micro, QM1, ARA, French 3
SEM 2: Intro Macro, IFA1, APA, PBL

BLAW30002 Tax Law 1 as your breadth (get it out of the way) and if you're gonna choose a commerce elective, do Principles of Marketing or Managing Operations. If not, just do an easy breadth, your Semester 2 is pretty full on. :)

CHeers I think I will do Tax Law 1

So Tax Law 1, Business Finance, IFA2 + Some easy breadth aren't a good combination?
CHeers thanks for the tip, I am doing Finance as my second major

Its not too bad since you have bus fi sanwhiched between the two (and bus fi is a piss easy subject if you are halfway competent with hs mathematics).

Looking at your combos, i dont see anything too bad with it.

As for the electives:

- competition and strategy (not a mandatory subject in acct/finance - but will be useful in 3rd yr financial accounting theory)
- enterprise performance management (3rd yr mgmt accounting subject which is just a glorified version of OB)

EPM in particular, wont take too much of your exam revision time as its basically mgmt with some cost accounting thrown in.

Thank you, that helps narrow my decision down :)
Although I am considering Sports Economics, do you know anything about the subject?

It's actually a good combo, I did Tax Law 1 + IFA2 + Cost Mgmt + BusFi myself and I found okay. Getting bulky prerequisite subjects out of the way for third year.
