How do interstate offers work
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:51:14 pm »
hi guys, so this morning i found out that i got an offer for my first preference at anu, which is awesome, but if i get my first preference in VTAC, i would much rather take that. do i accept the uac offer, and then if i get the better vtac offer, i accept that and then call ANU and say i wont be going?

ALSO accomodation offers come out soon - like today, and i have 48 hours to accept those. do i just accept that too, and then if i get into my first VTAC pref i just call up and cancel?

I think the mantra my careers advisor always said definitely applies here:
Quote
Always except your 1st round offer, no matter what it is.

Definitely accept the UAC offer, and the accomodation offer. Then wait till the 19th and see where life takes you! Hopefully you'll get what you want here in Victoria, but if not, at-least you've got options open

You can always reject these offers later under some pretence and there is nothing wrong with that. You can't reject them later though :)

Hope that helped!

The UAC offer is easy enough to deal with, you can accept and withdraw. You might even be able to wait until VTAC offers before accepting the ANU offer - if I recall there wasn't a specific expiry date on mine. You might want to double check this however. (edit: http://www.anu.edu.au/study/accept/accepting-your-domestic-undergraduate-offer states Friday before O-Week as the expiry date for all undergrad programs, though if your offer says differently than follow that of course)

However, the ANU accommodation offer makes it tricky. Accepting it involves paying the deposit within the 48 hours (and getting the offer confirmed requires that you accept your UAC offer). On top of that, there's cancellation fees involved with accommodation too. You might want to call ANU Admissions/Accommodation and find out what options are available to you.
