Hey guys,
I have an essay coming up and I need some assistance with brainstorming, as I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. The topic is:

'The beauty of informal language is that you can use it anywhere, anytime, regardless of context.

To what extent do you agree? Discuss with particular attention to the functions of informal language and referring to at least 3 subsystems in your response.'

Here's a suggestion: just try to think of when it would be inappropriate and appropriate to use informal language. Think contexts, because clearly they're pointing to it. (Think: would you wear an oversized pyjama top and underpants to a wedding?) Also, they deliberately point to the functions of informal language. Don't tell them directly what these are, but place evidence of your knowledge with examples. Furthermore, this is a "To what extent...?" question, where you'll have to tell them how much you agree/disagree with the prompt.
