Hey guys!

This is a bit of a random post but do any of you have a part-time job and is currently doing their VCE? Or did any of you have a job while completing their VCE? Did it have any significant impact on your studies? Is it a good or a bad idea to be working during VCE?

Drop your comments below!  :D

Hey!

I currently have a part time job and I have to say, if you like the people that you are working with and your hours are appropriate then it can be a really great outlet. For me I work with people I consider friends so it's just like hanging out with friends and getting payed for it. However it can be a hindrance if you are working to much, I know when I sarted vce I was working 18 hours a week and that was way too much and was really effecting my results, but now I am working 11 hours and week and it is a perfect time for me to get away from my study's. Although I won't be working in year 12, I don't know how people do that!  :)

The dux of my school was a crew trainer at McDonald's throughout year 12, and the 3rd best student started working at McDonald's during the start of year 12 and maintained his job throughout the year. They told me that working helped them by giving them a break from study.

I personally don't have a part time job and find time management quite easy. At the start of year 11 I really wanted to get a job but my parents told me not to and honestly I am glad I didn't.  I would of have found it too hard to cope with it on top of V.C.E, family commitments, debating, S.R.C and other things. Debating was and still is my version of a study outlet.

It really depends on the person. Some people thrive with a part time job while others can't seem to juggle everything.

Right now I'm doing three shifts a week, which is a lot (I will definitely cut down towards exams), however I do not do much else outside of school and I find in a way it helps me manage my time better. It's strange, I know, but it makes sense if you think of it like having less time forces you to manage your time more efficiently to get everything done. This really helps me because I'm the kind of person who will sit at their desk for a whole weekend - and will probably not get all my work done because I let myself get distracted with the mindset that I can dawdle because I have a lot of time.

Contrastingly, when I know I have work after school, I'll go to the library for 1-2 hours and get through all my work without any distractions. Personally, I find lots of short bursts of really solid work to be more useful than a whole weekend doing one thing really slowly.

It's all really just a personal thing everyone has to decide themselves, but this is just what I found to be helpful to me :) xx

P.S. I've still been happy with the marks on all my SACs. I don't think I could have gotten better marks even if I had more time without a job.

I'm in year 12 currently and for the first term I did a contracted 10 hours a week, which I both enjoyed and regretted. As others have said it's a great outlet, good for experience and making friends, but I think 10 hours per week is too much in year 12.
As term two is about to begin I have gone back to casual work and cut back my availability to 5 hours on a Sunday afternoon, of which I will probably only get 3 hours.

I quit my job halfway through last term. It would've been good to stay on, and i didn't find the shifts too difficult. I only quit because they were a pain about flexibility and cancelling shifts and I was finding it too stressful to manage
