Anyone studying Biomed or Science- Global Challenges advanced

Hi guys

I'm aiming for mbbs but pretty sure I'll be stuck in the horrible UMAT but good atar boat (not good enough for chancellors though) and don't want to go interstate, so I'm considering the above two.

Can anyone tell me more about global challenges, particularly what goes down in the last year with the big project?
Also, is it wiser to study biomed/commerce or law if I don't want to do research? (assuming I don't get into graduate med)
What's biomed like- as in is it enjoyable/ or difficult to get good marks?

Thanks!

So, I don't do GC, but I know a fair bit about it given I'm in its sister course. :P

As for the final year project, nobody knows about it. You've gotta remember, the course is only a year and a bit old - there are plans as for what might happen, but they haven't left the administrative office (AFAIK, and I've been talking to friends about this recently), so nobody knows what might happen in the course past second year.

Do you know anything about the impact through science subject done at the end of each semester?
And if you don't mind me asking, what are you planning to do job wise once u finish your science degree?

Yes - first year has had a basis in leadership (what makes a good leader, examples of good leaders, etc.) and communication (in what ways can science be communicated, how can it effectively be done) and second year a basis in entrepreneurship (how to make something from nothing).

This may change in future years, of course, but they've been consistent so far (not that that says much. )

And if you don't mind me asking, what are you planning to do job wise once u finish your science degree?

I'm hoping to be an academic, myself, so I'm looking at quite a long road at university.

Why not?

I'm a NZ citizen so not eligible for HECS, and my parents are moving purposefully for me to melbourne (from Ballarat) just so they won't have to pay extra money for accommodation etc, so yeah just being conscious about money and not wanting to impose costs on my parents

New Zealand students are eligible for HECS

All Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and holders
of Australian permanent visas are classified as domestic
students and may be eligible for a CSP. Australian citizens
must undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study that
contributes to their course of study to meet the residency
requirements.
New Zealand citizens and the holders of an Australian
permanent visa must be resident in Australia for the
duration of their unit(s) of study to meet the residency
requirements.

Yeah but I have to pay CSP upfront as in no loans, CSP is the only fee help available for us, u guys can pay off uni fees when u start earning a certain amount whereas I have to pay it whilst studying

I think i confused CSP with loans idk thought that it was separate from hex

What you said is right. HECS is the loan scheme, CSP is the government-subsidised fees.
