right leftr ectangle businesses

hello.

just wondering that what's with all this right rectangle and left rectangle approximation business. i left the book at school and couldn't find the essential one at da moment.

if you are asked to use right rectangle to find an area enclosed by a curve do you draw it like this?




could anybody pls clarify it? tkx tkx tkx!!

No, right angle is when the RIGHT top corner of the rectangle touches the curve.

Don't you just use:



etc?  Of course you would replace "1" and "2" with the appropriate widths.

Just look at which corner is touching the curve =\ The definition doesn't change regardless of positive/negative, and really, it isn't meant to be that technical.
