English or Eng Language

Hiii,

My subject selections are due tonight! And I'm stuck deciding between english and english language for units 1/2. I could also do both as I still need another subject. My current choices are biology 3/4, chemistry 1/2, specialist 1/2 and PE. Both subjects interest me because I'm interested about the origin of languages and things like that. But then I also enjoy the normal english side of things, like analysing books and movies (from what I've done so far)
Help would be appreciated!!

Hello!

It sounds like you would love doing both! You can always drop one after Year 11 (especially as you said you were completing methods 3/4 in year 12) and it would give you a range of options as well . English Language is very broad, especially in 1/2, where we have learnt about grammar and the function of language, child language acquisition, the history of English and English on a global scale. Mainstream English is very similar to Year 10 English (at least at my school). The assessments are text response, comparative, analysing argument, point of view oral and a creative piece.

If you found another subject that you want to take, therefore only taking one English I would recommend English Language as you can always hop into Mainstream English at year 12, but not vice versa.

I ended up just putting both english subjects down as there isn't really any other subjects I want to do or continue on into year 12. Like you said, I can always drop one during the year if I change my mind, so I'll just see how I go!
