Hi guys,

So the English Language Exam is like 2 days away, and I literally feel like I know nothing.
I'm not going to make excuses about why I've let myself get like this, so yeah - is there anything I can do in these last 2 days? I seriously don't even know where to begin to be honest :(

Thank you.

I feel like I'm in the same position as you.  :'(

I'm just planning to do go through as many short answers as possible (green book, practice papers), practicing analysis of various texts, and practicing essays + memorising quotes/modern examples.

yeah I don't have the green book and like most of the VCAA exams have the texts copyrighted :(

regarding quotes: what do we need to know about them??

If your school gave you practice papers from other companies, maybe have a look at those, or maybe just try your best to make do with the VCAA ones.

I think for quotes, just try to memorise some linguist quotes relating to specific subjects, such as identity, slang etc. You should be able to find some online and in sample essays (a lot of essays on ATARnotes) or the Living Lingo. I've heard including contemporary examples from the media is crucial to scoring highly.

If you can remember some nifty quotes from renowned linguists like David Crystal then that'd be pretty good to have up your sleeve BUT more than anything you should find some recent examples of how language is used in the media that reflects the things you learnt this year - like sexism, taboo, euphemisms/dysphemisms etc. A quote is a good-to-have but a fresh example is a must-have.

Hey there! Don't give up now. Work hard tomorrow and stay persistent, and good luck on Thursday! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
