Chemistry 1/2

Hey Guys!

I have been concentrating at my Maths too much already, so thought, its time for some science  :P

Can anyone briefly tell me, anything about Chemistry units 1/2 and what sort of stuff we may need to learn. We have already started with Metallic Bonding, and had a look over the metallic bonding model, reactivity of metals etc... I am a little concerned, if I can keep up with my class (as in achieving top marks), and any heads up for me would be great.

Any assistance appreciated  ;D

There is no prerequisite knowledge for units 1/2 Chem, aside from maybe year 7 science lol

In my Year 10 Chemistry, we learnt about: types of reactions
                                                                    increasing reaction speeds
                                                                    formulas
                                                                    valence electron stuff
                                                                    Prac Reports
                                                                    ions- basic stuff

1/2 chemistry should be taught from scratch. If it's not, your school is doing a dodgy and you should approach them about prerequisite knowledge.

Most of it is pretty new stuff, and any existing knowledge (reaction types, periodic trends, writing formulas, etc) will be covered anyway throughout the year
Good luck!

just try your absolute best for chem 1/2. It is PIVOTAL for 3/4. IMO a strong 1/2 foundation, is the greatest advantage for 3/4. I know people who tried to get ahead and read the 3/4 course in yr 11 and ignored the 1/2. The kids who focused on 1/2 are way better at chem then the kids that ignored it and read ahead. Not saying not to read ahead. But make sure your 1/2 is strong.
