given that you've already done two 3/4's in year 11, i don't feel like there's much benefit for you doing Aus Pol. i personally didn't do it and i only had a couple of friends doing it so i'm not sure about how tough or time-consuming the subject is, but apart from letting you study something you enjoy and maybe acting as a backup in case one of your other subjects doesn't go so well on exam day, i feel like it's not that worth investing time into a 7th subject that's ultimately going to have zero effect on your ATAR. that time could be used on your other subjects instead (as you said), or even just giving you some time to relax and de-stress throughout the year (very important so you don't burn out), but that's just my opinion!

Thanks a heap for your reply!! :)

As per my signature, I've decided to drop it :) I pretty much decided this, but was just after some reassurance. Thanks :)

Hey guys, so I thought I'd get a bit creative with the subject title above; but basically, I'm trying to work out whether I should drop Australian Politics or not.

So I'm completing AusPol via distance ed (as well as Legal), and have started reading some of the coursework for both subjects (for those of you who don't know, the DECV send you a big booklet of basically everything you have to do for each unit and a heap of information), and have started feeling as though I may be in over my head with Aus Pol. As a subject, I think I will enjoy the content, but my concerns are:
a) Being an unpopular subject, there are limited resources available (which could be extra disadvantageous seeing as it's distance education) to provide extra help.
b) There is a fair bit of content, and it seems to require a fair bit of work in order to do well (i.e. - many essays and time spent watching/reading about political events) - which I don't think I can really afford with my other subjects time-wise.
c) What you actually need to know for the exam is a bit confusing, as the subject is contemporary-focused.
d) It seems like a subject that requires a fair bit of collaboration and a reliance on your teacher, which I obviously don't have direct access to.
e) The coursebook that I received (this sounds a bit stupid) isn't set out very well (in comparison to the legal one anyway), so I'm already struggling to make sense of the content and what I need to know.
f) I'm worried that there may be inconsistencies with what the content covers in the coursebook, and that of the study design. (E.g. - the coursebook has a fair bit of historical information and covers some thing that aren't in the study design, but leaves others out - however I should add that I do have a textbook which I haven't received yet which may help with this).

Anyway, all advice/comments/whatever are welcome and would be greatly appreciated! :)

NOTE: I just wanted to add that by dropping Aus Pol, I'd have 4 subjects in year 12, making 6 in total.

Hi Glasses, despite not having done AusPol at Distance, I know the AusPol teacher, as he also taught EngLang. From what little I know about him, he seems to be a first-rate guy. :)

Long story short, if it's not a perquisite subject there's no point in doing it if it will cause a hassle.

2015: English | Methods | Chinese SL | Specialist | Physics
