Improving and Achieving

Hi guys,

It wouldn't be too much of me to say that I'm a pretty strong student in English, and have always been in the top 4 at my school in terms of marks. But the problem is, so far, I feel like I've just been improvising and winging my way through English. I feel that this wouldn't be beneficial to me anymore, (especially what with being in Year 12 and all), and also because it seems to me that my English skills have become somewhat stagnant. That is, I feel I haven't improved as much as I would have liked to, because I just relied on the tried and tested methods that got me through to Year 12.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on improving my writing and vocabulary, and also outline the successful methods that you guys used to achieve top Study Scores. Just to clarify, I'm looking at getting a 45+ SS. :)

Thank you!

I trust you've started by letting your eyes pop with wonder over the rich storehouses of English Resources and Sample Essays?

(for instance, there's a couple of big threads on improving writing and vocab there; also check the first post database in English Q&A)

Your other best step is simply to think about the strengths and weaknesses of how you're studying and how it influences your performance.  What about those methods was less successful, and why?  And thus what could you do instead that would be better, and why?

Edit: I am now officially a part of AN's furniture.  Don't sit on me, please.

Thanks, that's great! Also, because I am an avid reader, are there any books at all that you can recommend that will help me improve, directly or indirectly?
