Incomprehensible Economic Jargon - 2016 Budget!

*** 2016 BUDGET - CONFUSING LANGUAGE!? ***

Hey guys,

I am not too sure if you've heard about the 2016 budget, but every year when it is released by the Australian Government, the treasurer always seems to use 'econobabble'.

See attached photos and notice lexical phrases such as:
- 'Economic transition'
- 'Sustainably supporting'
- 'Responsible economic plan'

Can you find any others in my photos?

But, what is 'econobabble'? According to Richard Denniss, "We hear it every day, when public figures and commentators use incomprehensible economic jargon to dress up their self-interest as the national interest, to make the absurd seem inevitable or the inequitable seem fair."

Because of the size of the photos, I can't upload them here, but please find them in my Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1107613939260890/

Thanks :)
Dmitri

On a somewhat related note, I highly recommend reading the following articles:

- A ‘new’ approach to communicating – oh, and jobs and growth – to be found in Budget 2016
- From donkey votes to dog whistles, our election language has a long and political history

Both are written by the absolutely freaking brilliant Kate Burridge and the absolutely freaking brilliant Howie Manns. Do it!
