Hi all,
I am hoping to do a double degree of commerce/science for university. I'm currently in Year 11 doing: Biology 3/4, Chemistry, Physics, Japanese SL, English, and Methods. I was wondering if I should keep pursuing chemistry or if swapping it for a subject like business management would be better.
I, personally, find it hard to apply myself in subjects I don't enjoy and have discovered this year that chemistry is absolutely not a subject I enjoy.
Thanks~
I've been in a similar position before, albeit with different subjects.
Chem is not a prerequisite for Comm/ Sci at any institutions that I know of, however, this may impact on what sort of path you intend to do under Science. (You can check the prerequisites
here.) If you intend to take a path under chemistry or intend to major/ minor in chemistry in uni, you will have a hard time of picking up from where you left off.
Always ask yourself these three questions:
1. Are you good at Chemistry?
2. Do you like Chemistry? (Clearly not, seeing as you mentioned your lack of enjoyment.)
3. Will you use this in the future as a career pathway or further study? (It's not a prereq, but I don't know about your career goals.)
I know I answered the second one, but it's the default three questions when it comes to subject selection: skill, interest and future. It really does come back to these three points.
Apologies for the half-hearted answer, but I'll be available to reply after uni exams, so feel free to send me a PM and we can discuss this further.
