Computer Science / Engineering

Hey

So I was looking at Monash's website for the Computer Science and Engineering double degree and it seems that I'm quite restricted to what majors I can pick. It looks like I can only specialise in advanced computer science for compsci and electrical/computer systems engineering or software engineering for eng. I would like to major in data science for compsci and preferably mechantronics/mechanical engineering so I was wondering if I am able to pick these majors instead of having to choose between the 1 major for compsci and 2 for engineering as listed on the website.

Thanks.

I mean if a uni gives a set of majors, you can only do those. The only way to get around this is to perhaps look at a different university that offers exactly what you want.

If you don't mind going interstate Unsw is a great uni and offers Data Science as a whole separate degree itself and Mechanical Engineering as well.

As far as I know Data Science is a very new field and has only just made it's way into universities. I think Unsw is the only one that offers Data Science as a separate degree in NSW but I don't think you can combine it with anything else.

Best of luck with your studies!

Unfortunately, if you are enrolled under the double degree for Eng/CompSci at Monash, you are restricted in terms of your specialisation choices. I would assume this is due to Monash wanting to make them complementary, but also very focused and specific.

If it's feasible, follow DrDusk's advice to look at other potential courses to study here or interstate. :)
